How to Get in the Fall Spirit

Fall is my favorite time of year. Football starts, I get to wear my cozy sweaters, and no more sweating while walking outside. Yet, when life is stressful it can be hard to get excited about the things we used to love. You still enjoy the things that come along with the changing seasons but not to their fullest extent. Life has a tendency to stress us out and we might find ourselves unable to enjoy the things we used to.  I am here to help you get over that slump and get into the fall spirit!

There are some very simple things you can do to embrace the upcoming season, feel like a kid again, and get excited about the changing leaves. By doing these things every year, I always end up with a warm cozy feeling in my heart. I personally do everything on this list but even if you only try a few things, I know they will make a difference.

1. Decorate!

This one is hard for me to wait on. The second it turns September 1st I am tempted to break out the fall decor. However, I stop myself until it is almost the first day of fall so I have something to look forward to. I am a huge fan of change, so taking out all of my decorations and putting them around my home makes me incredibly happy. I get tired of the same old decor, so I allow myself to add a few new things to my fall collection each year. This tactic lets me have new little items to get excited about without going overboard since I only let myself get a few things.

I do not have a link to any products for this because it is much more expensive on Amazon. Go to Home Goods and you will find a treasure trove of fall decor right at your fingertips! Another great place to go is actually Michael’s Arts and Crafts but only when they have a 40-50% off sale. The regularly priced decor can be a bit expensive without some sort of coupon or discount.

2. Candle

On the theme of scents, let’s move on to candles! I adore burning a candle in my home as it adds a cozy feeling with the light of the flame combined with the nice fall scent. I like to burn one at night while watching a scary movie. It is also a great way to help yourself unwind after a long day. Just light it when you come home and then the smell will be associated with being home and relaxed. Smell is our greatest association with memory so you can enjoy this feeling for years to come.

I found the perfect compliment to the soap! Sweater Weather is another great scent that is not pumpkin obsessed and will still give you the feeling of fall. Again, I have tried many candles in my life and I always come back to Bath and Body Works since their products actually do their jobs. I made the mistake of buying WalMart candles in the past and felt that they were a waste of money, as the scent was incredibly weak.

3. Cozy Blanket

I could not survive the colder seasons without a fuzzy throw blanket. I tend to keep my apartment a little bit on the colder side (saves money!), so in order to combat the fall/winter chills I throw on a onesie and cuddle up with my blanket. Throw in a cup of tea and a good book and I give you the perfect fall afternoon. My favorite place to shop for throws is Home Goods but sometimes it can be hit or miss. I got the blanket pictured above from there but I wanted to find one similar to mine so you could have one as well!

4. Scented Soap

Every year I find a soap to put in my kitchen or bathroom that smells like fall. I am a mountain lover, so anything that brings the nostalgic feelings of being in mountain air is a home run for me. I have never been a huge fan of pumpkin scented stuff (which is all you find nowadays), so I try to create this feeling with more of a woodland scent. Anything teakwood or sage makes its way into my home for the season. It gives your home a hint of fall without being overpowering. The best part: it only happens when you wash your hands so the scent is always fresh!

This is one of the most amazing soaps I have ever smelled. It genuinely smells exactly like the mountains and I am so excited to share it with you! Bath and Body Works also has THE best products that actually fill the room with scent rather than some that barely smell at all.

5. Go Camping

Before it gets too cold, get out of town and have a little rustic getaway. It is far cheaper than staying in a hotel or Airbnb, and with all the stresses of the world, it can be nice to unplug for a while. I recommend going with a significant other or group of friends since that makes it much more fun! To make the best memories, bring marshmallows, hot cocoa, a Bluetooth music player, and some games! You will have a great night and it will really help you get into the fall spirit.

6. Have a Scary Movie Night

One of the best parts about fall is Halloween! Scary movies are my favorite genre and this is the season to enjoy them to the fullest. There are all the classics like “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Sweeny Todd” but sometimes it can get boring to watch the same films over and over again. I have a separate blog post that details my top 5 favorite psychological thriller movies that you should check out to hopefully find some new films!

Read it Here!

So grab your new mug, blanket, light a candle, and settle onto your couch to watch one of these films!

I hope after reading this you are finally getting in the fall spirit! I never want to lose that childhood feeling of coziness and warm feelings as the season’s change. Until I have children of my own, I need to be a little selfish and create these moments for myself until one day I make it for them. So get excited, stay young at heart, and put on a scarf it’s time for sweater weather!
